Traprock Valley: Andre V. Codere, 78, of Traprock Valley, passed away peacefully at his home, with his family by his side, on September 3, 2016.
He was born on March 11, 1938, in Lake Linden, a son of Stanislaus ?Mit? and Elizabeth (Racine) Codere. He attended Saint Joseph Parochial School and Lake Linden Hubbell High School.
After high school, Andre went to Detroit to work for his cousin Don Racine at his gas station. He return to the Copper Country in the early 1960s and worked for the Ford Garage in Calumet. In 1964, Andre bought and operated the Blinker Light Gas Station in Lake Linden, where he also sold Sno-Jet Snowmobiles. Later, he worked with his brother-Jack at the Keweenaw Research Center, and with his brother-Jim and his son-Peter in construction. He also operated an auto repair shop out of his home in Traprock Valley.
He had been married to Patricia Gilles. On January 1, 1991, he was married to Virginia Campeau in Traprock Valley.
He served on the Lake Linden Volunteer Fire Department for 23 years. He was a member of the Valley Sno-Drifters and the Lake Linden-Hubbell Sportsman?s Club.
He enjoyed hunting, ATV riding, snowmobiling, and going to the cottage on Gratiot Lake.
He was preceded in death: by his parents and siblings-Yolande Treidel, Stanley, Shirley Poirier, Roy, Gerald, Jack, and Jim.
He is survived by: his wife-Virginia; children-Peter (Lori) Codere of Tamarack, Christine ?Teen? (Dennis DeMars) Codere of Traprock, Jacqueline (Kevin) Larson of Ashwaubenon, WI, Brad (Karen) Codere of Lake Linden; 10 grandchildren-Ashley, Paige, Abby, Christopher, Teryn, Brittany, Briah, Evan, Maija, and Mason; 3 great-grandchildren-Kinsley, Hadley, and Emmett; brother-Brian (Donna) Codere of Bootjack; sisters-in-law-Maureen, Lois, and Carol; step-daughter-Patricia Maynarich; step-granddaughter-Skylar Maynarich; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public services. The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at pearcefuneralhome.com
