Deceased Name: Barbara Mae Gamache
NORTHAMPTON - Barbara Mae (Slanda) Gamache, 77, of Harold Street, died June 7 at the Linda Manor Extended Care Facility.
Born July 25, 1927, in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Doris (O'Dell) Slanda.
She graduated from Northampton High School in 1944 and from the Nursing Program at Boston City Hospital in 1946.
She worked as a nurse's aide at Cooley Dickinson Hospital and later at the former McCallum's Store. She then worked at Trico Vending Co. in Northampton, retiring in 1975.
She was an avid baseball fan, and enjoyed UMASS basketball games, playing cards, reading, and vacationing at the ocean. She was a huge Frank Sinatra fan.
She leaves her husband, Leo Gamache, of Florence; two sons, Peter Cushing, of Florence, and Brian Cushing, of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Cathy Cushing, of Danby, Vt.; a sister, Marian Clark, of Northampton; a brother, Edward Slanda, of Florida; a granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.
A son, Alan Cushing, and a daughter, Diane Cushing, died earlier.

Burial will be private at Spring Grove Cemetery in Florence.
There are no calling hours.
Czelusniak Funeral Home of Northampton is in charge of the arrangements.
