DANIEL AUGUSTUS SHEA - GRANT'S PASS, Ore. - On Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, our Sheaboy found peace. Daniel Augustus Shea was born on Jan. 31, 1954, in Burlington, Vt., son of Dr. William I. Shea and Lucy Carey Shea, RN (both deceased). Danny was raised on South Union Street in Burlington with his two brothers and four sisters. He attended Rice Memorial High School and graduated from Burlington High School, but considered himself an autodidact (self-taught). In the summer, the family gathered at the beach by "Shea's Shack" on Malletts Bay where Danny developed a lifelong affection for Lake Champlain and all water sports it offered. To know Danny was to know his love for all things outdoors: boating, sailing, swimming, hiking, skiing, kayaking, road trips, and water skiing, especially with his early-morning water-skiing buddies in front of Camp Holy Cross. Our fondest memories are of Captain Sheaboy sailing on his classic Lightning or cruising on his vintage Chris Craft Lancer. Danny's love of nature lead him into his career in the field of energy conservation, beginning in Vermont and eventually bringing him to Oregon. His love of music and background in festivals and concerts in Vermont as a member of the "Motley Crew," lead to an association of many years with the famous Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland, Ore. Sheaboy was larger than life. These are the things that endeared him to all: loyalty, high energy, quickness of wit, infectious laughter, jokester (supreme), enthralling storyteller (prone to hyperbole), vivaciousness, and being well-read as well as strongly opinionated. Danny is beloved by his family including, Billy Shea (Irene Callisto), Lucy Abair (Alan), Susan Shea (Sonya Hanson), Petie Shea-Gamache (Joe Gamache), Sarah Shea-Smith (Stephen Smith, deceased), and Michael Shea (Becky Adams). Danny will be remembered fondly by his loving nephews and nieces, Patrick and Tucker Shea; Brian and Molly Abair; Billy, Angie, and Kevin Gamache; Emily, Matty and Sam Smith; and Grady and Colin Shea. To live in the hearts of those we leave behind is never to die. Danny brought laughter and joy to his family and friends in Vermont and Oregon. A close friend said upon his passing, "He always made me feel good." This may describe him best. "So now we'll raise a glass to Danny... Hurrah for Danny, Hurrah alas, Hurrah for Danny he's a..."
