DONALD EDWIN HEINEN Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home Donald Edwin Heinen, age 84, passed away on September 8, 2016 surrounded by his loving family at the Tri-City Chaplaincy Hospice House in Kennewick after a courageous fight with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Seneca, Kansas on February 27, 1932 to Lambert and Anna Heinen. In his early years he attended school in Seneca, Kansas until the 8th grade. He then was needed on the family farm to help his father; sacrificing his high school education like many other kids did back then. This didn't stop Don from becoming a success in life. His philosophy was "with a little hard work any dream is achievable". In January 1953 he was inducted into the Korean War. In 1955 after being honorably discharged, he returned home and took a job working for Goodyear Tire Co. until he decided to attend Barber College in Kansas City, Missouri. On October 5, 1957 Don married the love of his life, Mildred (Millie) Rottinghaus at the Saint Benedict Catholic Church in Kansas. Together they purchased and ran a 100-acre farm in Piper, Kansas along with owning and operating his own barber shop in Kansas City, Missouri for 10 years. In the spring of 1970, being the entrepreneur that he was, Don was given the opportunity to move his young family to the Columbia Basin in Washington where they started a successful farming operation growing alfalfa, beans, peas, potatoes and wheat; expanding to grasses in the later years. He was always looking forward in farming, willing to try something new and innovative. The highlight of his farming career was being able to teach his sons the business of which they now continue on today. In 1992 Don and Millie retired and moved into Kennewick, Washington where they enjoyed an active retirement. Don enjoyed spending time motor homing with Millie by his side. They spent many weeks and months through the years exploring the United States and finding the best places to dance the night away. He enjoyed meeting and striking up conversations with strangers who later became lifelong friends. Don had many hobbies. Retirement was a new adventure; however, he really did miss the farm life. Some of Don's favorite hobbies were scroll sawing, biking, snow skiing and golfing. Don is survived by his wife Mildred and their four children, Kevin (Donna) Heinen, Kelleen Jordan (Mark: Dec'd), Patrick (Deborah) Heinen, Sharon (Trever) Gamache; siblings, Melvin (Irene) Heinen; sister-in-law Juanita Heinen; Verness (Peggy) Heinen; Lola (Jerry) Otting and Mark Heinen. Grandchildren, Kyle Heinen; Kayla Broberg; Karis, TJ and Jordan Gamache and Jacob Heinen. Great-grandchildren, Kamilah and Karson Heinen; Presley and Jack Broberg; and Delaney Alford. Step grandchildren, Amanda Holcomb; Luke and Kayla Jordan; Matt and Kyle Logan; Josh Kramer and Amber Schaible. Don was preceded in death by his parents Lambert and Anna Heinen; an infant Daughter, a brother, Kenneth Heinen; sister-in-law Twila Heinen and son-in-law Mark Jordan. Don will be remembered by his family and friends as a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was a great role model to all. He will be especially missed by his coffee buddies. He touched many lives over the years and will be greatly missed by all. Till we meet again, may he rest in eternal peace. The Rosary service will be held at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S.
