Deceased Name: Edna D. Gamache
GREENFIELD -- Edna D. (VanValkenburg) Gamache, 88, of 54 High St., Weldon House, died Wednesday (7-30-03), at Heritage Hall Nursing Facility in Agawam.
Born in Buckland, Feb. 1, 1915, she was the daughter of William and Gertrude (Pervere) VanValkenburg. She attended Clark School for the Deaf.
Gamache was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church.
She was an active member at the Greenfield Senior Center. She was the recipient of an Association for Community Living Achievement Award.
She enjoyed crocheting.
She was married to Joseph E. Gamache, Dec. 16, 1972. He died in August 1987.
Survivors include a brother, Chester VanValkenburg of Greenfield; a sister, Rachel Kelley of Shelburne; a niece, Kathy Buell of Agawam, who was her caregiver; additional nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews, and a sister-in-law, Alice M. Buell of Agawam. Her advocate was Karen Serra.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church with the Rev. Timothy J. Campoli, pastor, celebrant.
Prior to the Mass, the family will receive guests in the church vestibule from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. Interment, following cremation, will be private in St. Mary's Cemetery, Westfield, at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Weldon House Residents Activity Fund, 54 High St., Greenfield, MA 01301.
McCarthy Funeral Homes, of Greenfield and Turners Falls, is in charge of arrangements.
