EXETER - Eva G. Mahoney, 96, formerly of Manchester and Exeter, died Sept. 1, 2014, at Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood.Simply Eva, to those she befriended and loved, was born in Chester, on Jan. 12, 1918, the daughter of Alfred and Eva (Gamache) Vincent, the fifth of 12 children.Although she lived in many places during her life, she always considered Exeter to be her home. During the Great Depression when she was 10, Eva was hired out to clean homes and wash floors. Her teenage years were spent working in Manchester's textile mills and shoe shops.In 1940 she graduated from the then Favorite Academy of Beauty Culture in Portsmouth. For over 35 years she worked as a self-employed beautician, maintaining shops in Manchester and Exeter.While living for a time in Atlanta, Ga., with her daughter Mary she did volunteer work for Home Instead Inc. She was honored for her outstanding commitment as a caregiver, aide and senior companion.Her hobbies and interests involved going for walks, gardening, crochet, and helping others. She greatly enjoyed taking rides along the coast road from Hampton Beach north to the Nubble Lighthouse in York, Maine. She loved the smell of the ocean air. It was her "favorite thing to do."She was a hard working, independent, private, strong-willed and loving spirit, who was thoroughly prepared to show her love by giving all, asking little and accepting less. Predeceased by her husband, Richard J. Mahoney, Mrs. Mahoney is survived by her daughters, Patricia Mahoney of Newington, Conn., Candace Joy and her husband Richard of Estero, Fla., Mary Fiedler and her husband Lee of Wells, Maine, and her son Martin Mahoney and his wife Barbara of Chesterfield; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a sister, Ruth Gervais of Deland, Fla.

SERVICES: Mrs. Mahoney's remains were donated to the Tufts University Anatomical Gift Program.A private, graveside memorial service will be held at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Manchester.Eva will be remembered during the 11 a.m. Sunday Mass on Sept. 14, at St. Michael Church, Exeter.Donations may be made in Mrs. Mahoney's memory to the
