- [S5] Obituary.
GERALD NILS ANDERSON 1940 - 2000 I said good-bye today, November 10, 2000, but not forever, to my best friend and beloved husband of 34 years. Over the past year Jerry fought a courageous battle against lung cancer followed by several strokes. He rarely complained, kept his sense of humour and always had a winning smile. The value of family kinship and the love shared were most important to him as well as the many friendships acquired over the years. Jerry grew up in Winnipeg and lived on Sherman Street. He attended Pinkham School and Hugh John McDonald High School. As a young boy he would ride his bicycle all the way to Lockport to fish or ride to the Halleck farm in Starbuck, MB where he spent a lot of time growing up. He gave up his bike for a bigger one..."Harley". Following our marriage, Jerry and I have made our home in Landmark for the past 25 years. In his teens, he was active as a boxer. He took great pride in serving in the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada as a Cadet and then in the Reserve. He belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles as well as many gun clubs in Winnipeg. He always felt his one greatest accomplishment was when he represented Manitoba at the Regina Western Summer Games in 1975, as a member of the shooting team. He represented the Gateway Gun Club in Sudbury, Ont., at the Canadian National Handgun Competition where he placed first overall as the Canadian Sharpshooter and Marksman. Prior to his retirement in 1995, Jerry had been employed with Motorways, Reimer Express Lines and Able Movers. There was not a hunting of fishing season that Jerry didnt have covered from January to December. Our cabin at Lac Lu, Ont., has been our "happy place" for 30 years. Quality time with family and friends will never be the same; however the memories will last forever. His parents, Hilda (Klemas) and Nils predeceased him. He leaves behind his devoted wife Sandra (Klatt) sister Sonia and Frank Gamache, Laurier, MB; brothers, Richard and Eva (Byrka), Thunder Bay, Gordon; brother-in-law Ted and Yvette (Roy) Klatt all of Winnipeg; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 13 at 7:00 p.m. at the Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Dr. The service will conclude at the church with cremation to follow at a later time. Active pallbearers will be nieces: Karen Biscard (Anderson), Sherry Lezak (Gamache), nephews, Kelly Anderson, Keith Anderson, Guy (Gee) Gamache, Darren Gamache, Robert Gamache, Michael Klatt, Steven Klatt. The family would like to thank Dr. Curtis Krahn and the staff of Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach for their tender loving care. Sincere thanks as well to Cancer Care Manitoba and to Dr. C. Schellenberg and the staff at Westwood Clinic. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerrys memory may be made to a charity of ones own choice. GREEN ACRES FUNERAL CHAPEL 222-3241
