Henri Frechette Sr., 70
CLAREMONT -- Henri Raoul Frechette Sr., 70, of Red Water Brook Road, died Sunday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Roxbury, Mass., after a brief illness.
He was born in Lowell, Mass., on Aug. 3, 1926, the son of Raoul and Emiliana (Gilbert) Frechette. He had been a Claremont resident for the past 34 years.
Mr. Frechette served 20 years in the Navy during World War II, the Korean conflict and Vietnam. He retired as chief damage controlman.
He later retired from Joy Manufacturing Co. foundry where he had worked for nearly 20 years. He was also a substitute teacher of machine tool trades at Stevens High School.
He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 29, the A.A.R.P., and was also an usher at St. Joseph Church for several years.
On April 21, 1951, he married Doris B. (Gamache) Frechette. She died Dec. 26, 1995.
Survivors include eight daughters, Diane M. Frechette of Manchester, N.H., Pauline L. Rock, Marie P. Frechette, Lorraine D. Frechette and Celeste D. Bourque, all of Claremont, Alice L. Franculli of Torrington, Conn., Clara P. Frechette of Charlestown and Rachel J. Frechette of Portsmouth, N.H.; three sons, Henri R. Frechette Jr. and Guy L. Frechette, both of Claremont, and Rep. Joseph G. Frechette of Portsmouth; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Maurice Frechette of Manchester and Norman Frechette of Holderness, N.H.; one sister, Dorothy Guernon of Dracut, Mass.; also nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by one brother, Orner Frechette.
There will be no visiting hours.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Church with the Rev. Stanley Piwowar as celebrant.
Interment with full military honors will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
The Stringer Funeral Home of 146 Broad St. is in charge of the arrangements.
