- Student Killed in Car Crash
BY CASSANDRA STEPHENSON
Pepperdine junior Jake Brandon Harris died early Monday in San Pedro after his car crashed into a railing on the 110 Freeway and caught fire.
The crash was reported around 2 a.m. Harris died at the scene, according to ABC7. Emergency crews did not find any passengers at the scene.
The cause of the crash is unclear and an investigation is ongoing, according to the LAPD. No updates on the case have been released at this time.
Pepperdine sophomore Kelly Champeau posted a tribute to Harris on Instagram Monday evening.
?Heaven was blessed with Jake Brandon Harris today,? the post reads. ?The good people really do die young. Our friend group will forever be altered and eternally grateful for your memories. I will do my best to honor your legacy by striving to act with your kind heart, positivity and accepting nature. I will always miss you, your jeep and your smile.?
Champeau and sophomore Ally Enns, another close friend of Harris, wrote in a statement that Harris was the ?most kindhearted, selfless, loving person that we ever knew.?
?Jake took our problems on his shoulders, opened his heart to everyone and was constantly positive,? Champeau and Enns wrote. ?He welcomed everyone into his life without judgement. Despite his own life, he always put others first. To see Jake on campus or to be able to spend time with him was a blessing and gift that will be truly missed. The Pepperdine community will always miss Jake?s friendly smile. You will never be forgotten, always in our hearts and thoughts.?
This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.

- [S5] Obituary.
HARRIS, Jake Brandon 5/6/1998 - 1/15/2018 Cherished son of Angel Boudreau and Evan Harris, brother of Shane Harris and genuinely loved by countless friends and family. Jake departed to the Lord suddenly in a tragic car accident in California where he was attending college. Jake was in his second year at the esteemed Pepperdine University in Malibu. On pace to graduate with his bacherlor's degree in just three years, he already had his sights set on a master's degree program that would be completed in just his fourth year. These accomplishments were being achieved while he also worked and dedicated his time to a Pepperdine scholarship program. In addition to Jake's intelligence, people close to him remember him mostly for his kindness, willingness to help, loyalty to his friends, and having a huge heart. Jake was always smiling and approachable. An outstanding role model, Jake would continually go out of his way to play with his younger cousins. As sweet as Jake was, he was equally persistent. Jake had a remarkable relationship with his Nene and Papa, spending every summer with them. Often helping in their garden and building a connection that will be treasured for eternity. Jake will also be missed by his Papa Sako and Grandma Joan. Residing eight years with and being a proud member of the Ft. Muckle Tribe (Tracy, Ryan and Cory), "The Mucks" were Jake's brothers. Jake enjoyed hiking and had a deep desire for speed. One of his biggest passions was racing his KTM bike at Rail X in Arizona. Jake and his mother, Angel were as close as two humans can be. He was the prized creation and greatest achievement in her life. He will be devastatingly missed until their reunion someday.
