James Rein Gamache, 73, of Rosebud died Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at his residence.
James was born June 20, 1938, in St. Louis to the late Joseph E. and Rosemary (Wolff) Gamache. On December 29, 1984, he was united in marriage to Katherine LaVon Cossairt at the Sherwood Baptist Church in St. Louis. He was a founding member and secretary for Shield 24-7 which established a benevolent fund for families of fallen public safety officers; served as public information/community relations officer for Gasconade County Sheriffs Office; he received Man of the Year Award in 2008 from Owensville Chamber of Commerce; received in 2009 the Billielinn Cobb Public Safety Officers of the year award; received in 2009 an appreciation award from his service with the Gasconade County Fair Association; served in the Air Force Air National Guard from 1956-59; was a member of the Owensville VFW Post #6133; retired master electrician of I.B.E.W. Local #1 in St. Louis and also served as Press Secretary; he was a faithful member of New Salem Baptist Church for 20 plus years; served on Gerald Ambulance Board; served on 911 board of Owensville; was president of the rural fire association of Owensville; served as a volunteer deputy for Gasconade Sheriffs Department; was a Cherokee Indian Honorary Shaman; and served as a state representative for one term in the St. Louis District.
His survivors include his wife, Katherine; mother-in-law, Shirley Cossairt of Commerce, Okla.; daughters, Lisa Chrismon of Orlando, Fla. and Jane Kintz and husband Kevin of McKinney, Texas; son, John Gamache of St. Louis; stepson, Dennis Grayson of Rosebud; and five grandchildren, Kathleen and Kimberly Kintz, Jack and McKenzie Gamache and Jessica Grayson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 26, at 11 a.m. at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville with Rev. Dennis Lowe and Rev. Terry Knight officiating. Burial will be in the New Salem Baptist Church in Owensville with full military honors.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday with VFW services at 7 p.m.
