Deceased Name: Jean Gamache Chase Garrison
TX United States
JEAN GAMACHE CHASE GARRISON, age 86, passed away on July 15, 2008 at her home in Houston. Jean was a gentle, poetic soul who was devoted to her cherished children. She was born on November 18, 1921 in Fairfield, CT. During the Great Depression, her family moved to Houston since it was not suffering economically as greatly as the rest of the nation. Jean graduated from Lamar HS. During World War II, she did her part for the war effort by working as a dental hygienist at Ellington Air Base south of Houston. Many airmen were her patients, and after the war, she married one of them, Lt. Don Chase, the father of her children. Jean loved to write poetry and enjoyed books, gardens, music, and beautiful things. Her hands were so expressive that, during the 1940s, they were featured in Houston newspaper advertising. Late in life she became a devoted fan of Luciano Pavarotti. Jean was preceded in death by the love of her life, her beloved husband, Lawrence Garrison, her parents Louis and Bess Mitchell Gamache, and brothers, Bob and Bill Gamache. She is survived by her son, Scott and wife Debra Witter of Dallas, TX, daughter Karen and husband Dr. Barry Schecter of Houston, TX, and son Chris of Houston, TX; and grandchildren Jeff Chase and Josh Wilson. Her family wishes to express gratitude to Emily Muriuki, Treonda Thompson, Nancy Wataka, Veronica Wanjiru and Denise Wolover for their compassionate care of Jean, and most of all to her daughter, Karen, for her unstinting and devoted care of Jean in the last years of her life. Jean was interred at Bethany Christian Cemetery in Burton, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your favorite garden or park.
