Michelle Elizabeth Gamache
April 21, 1966 - July 23, 2020
After a brave and difficult battle with breast cancer, Michelle Elizabeth Gamache (née Varner) died peacefully with family by her side on July 23, 2020 in Halifax, N.S., aged 54. She leaves behind her loving husband, Gervais Gamache, daughter Kristen Gamache (Ryan Flinn), and son Matthew. She is also survived by her parents Clinton and Beverley Varner, her sister Allyson Bak (Doug), father-in-law Paul-Émile, mother-in-law Ginette Litalien, brother-in-law Christian (Kim Pringle), nieces Erin, Chloé, Kéliane, and nephews Jordan and Kyle.
Michelle was born on April 21, 1966 in Halifax, N.S. She grew up as a carefree spirit, fun-loving and curious. She attended Southdale and Hawthorne Elementary Schools, Prince Arthur Junior High School and Dartmouth High School. During high school she was a member of the original St. James United Church handbell choir.
Michelle married the love of her life and true soulmate, Gervais, on July 23, 1988. As a family they spent some years in British Columbia and Quebec, but certainly called Nova Scotia home.
Michelle was a consummate professional in her 30 years employed as a Dental Receptionist and Office Manager, adept at all aspects of her work. She was always a caring soul, selfless without exception. Soft-spoken and gentle, she was the kindest and sweetest person in any room. Her smile was contagious. She loved to decorate her home such that it was always warm and inviting. She had a real passion for dogs and was a supporter of the local greyhound rescue. Despite her lengthy ordeal with metastatic breast cancer, she always maintained a positive outlook, and never once complained or took to self-pity. She never wanted to burden others, and this is true testament to her incredible character.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Port Wallis United Church at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice Halifax, and all other care providers who gave attentive treatment and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society or Hospice Halifax.
