Normand R. Gamache, 83, beloved husband of Pauline A. (Gendron) Gamache, of South Windsor, died October 5, 2008 at home with his family by his side. Born in Fall River, MA on July 30, 1925, son of the late Raoul R. and Blanche F. (Pineau) Gamache, he had lived in West Roxbury, MA for 39 years before moving to South Windsor in 1991. Normand was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, serving in North Africa. He received his B.S. Degree in Transportation from Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI in 1952. Before retiring he was employed by Ellis Inc., as a business/credit manager. He was a parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Church, South Windsor. Normand was an avid sports fan and history buff with a passion for railroading. He continuously worked at his hobby, a railroad locomotive picture collection with over 70,000 pictures and data. He was a member of the Railway and Locomotive Historical Society and the CT Valley Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. He was a devoted husband and father. He thoroughly enjoyed having his family and grandchildren around him. In addition to his wife of 54 years, Pauline, he leaves their three children, Robert Gamache and his wife, Amy of Centreville, VA, David Gamache and his wife, Kathleen, of Hopkinton, MA and Susan (Gamache) Cook and her husband, John of South Windsor; a brother, Paul Gamache and his wife, Claudette of Bath, ME; ten grandchildren, Joyce Bulson, Kathleen Kennedy, Maureen Gamache, Diana Gamache, Stephen Gamache, Joseph Gamache, Elizabeth Gamache, Lisa Cook, Julie Cook and Stacy Cook and also one great grandchild, Connor Gamache. The family would like to extend special appreciation to Dr. A. Donadio, Elaine Scheinblum, R.N. and the staff of St. Francis Hospital Cancer Center for their excellent care and dedication. Thank you also to CTVNA Partners Hospice Program. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 10 a.m., at St. Margaret Mary Church, 80 Hayes Rd., South Windsor. Private family burial with military honors will follow in Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Francis-Mt Sinai Regional Cancer Center, c/o St. Francis Foundation, 95 Woodland St., Hartford, CT 06105.
