From: Mueller Funeral Home Josephine Foley (May 2, 1916 - June 4, 2011) Josephine (Horzen) Foley, 95, of LaSalle, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011 at St. Margaret's Hospital in Spring Valley. Funeral Services will be at 9:30 AM Thursday at Mueller-Pagani Funeral Home in LaSalle followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Bede Abbey in Peru. Josephine's brother, Rev. Bernard Horzen, OSB will officiate with the monks of St. Bede Abbey concelebrating. Burial will be in St. Vincent's Cemetery in LaSalle. Visitation will be 4-9:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home with a recital of the Rosary at 3:45 PM. Additional visitation will be from 9:00-9:30 AM Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Foley was born May 2, 1916 in DePue, IL to Anton and Josephine (Kukman) Horzen and moved to LaSalle with her parents in 1924. She attended St. Roch's Grade School and LaSalle-Peru Township High School. She married John Foley on June 18, 1938 in St. Roch's Church in LaSalle and until their retirement in 1975 they operated Foley's Grocery Store on East First Street in LaSalle. Mr. Foley served as Mayor of LaSalle from 1973 through 1977. Mr. Foley passed away on March 17, 1984. Mrs. Foley was a member of St. Patrick's Church in LaSalle, where she was a member of St. Ann's Sodality, the Ladies of Charity and the Catholic Daughters of America. Proud of her heritage, she was a member of the American Slovenian Catholic Union (KSKJ) and the Slovenian Women's Union. She also worked with the Cub Scouts and Boys Scouts and the St. Bede Academy Mother's Club. Survivors include two sons, James (Carolyn) Foley of Houston, TX and John "Jack" Foley of Chicago; a son-in-law, Ken Goldin of Peoria; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one brother, Rev. Bernard Horzen, OSB of St. Bede Abbey in Peru. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Patricia Goldin and a brother, Frank Horzen. Pallbearers will be Brendan Foley, Michael Foley, James Foley, Paul Winkler, John Winkler and Patrick Winkler. Memorial Donations may be directed to St. Bede Academy in Peru or The Goldin Scholarship at Bradley University in Peoria.
