Patrick J. Milligan, was one of the most prominent lumbermen in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. He was known to every lumber concern in Northeastern Wisconsin & the U.P. For many years he made his headquarters in Foster City.
DEATH CLAIMS VETERAN LUMBERMAN
Patrick J. Milligan, Sr, 79, former Breen Township supervisor, veteran lumberman & pioneer resident of the county, died suddenly at 11:30 yesterday morning at home, while sitting in is rocking chair, after shoveling snow.
When he was 10, Patrick moved with parents to Calais, Maine. He left there October 10, 1879 & a few days later was in Green Bay, Wis. & from there to Menominee, Mich. where he began his long career as a woodsman & logger.
Mr. Milligan was known to many of the ?lumberjacks? who, in those early days, chopped their way through the then virgin timber to feed the busy mills throughout the region. He was remembered of that hardy crew as a ?square boss?, fair & kindly in all his doings.
In 900 he wedded Miss Mary Bartella, Delta County. Besides is widow, 3 sons & 2 daughters survive: Patrick Jr., Foster City; Francis, Hardwood, Mich.; Phillip, Marquette, Mich.; Mrs. Eugene Racette, L?Anse, Mich. & Miss Margaret, Appleton, Wis.; 15 grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Norway Cemetery.
