- Suzanne Baas Obituary
BAAS Suzanne Willett Baas, age 73, passed away at her home on Thursday, December 29, 2011. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on February 20, 1938, the daughter of Captain Raymond and Bertha (Shirey) Willett. Growing up in a military home, Sue attended school in Pittsburgh, Norfolk, VA, and eventually graduated from high school in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she was named Miss Puerto Rico. After earning her Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts, she worked at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. It was there that she met her husband, Gary Baas. The two were married in February of 1959, and Sue worked as a private secretary to the German Consulate. Though she was successful in her work, she was most devoted to her family and friends. She enjoyed the company of her Euchre Group and Bridge Club, and she was active for many years at the Columbus Country Club, Athletic Club Bowling League, and Tennis Group. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Protestant Church. Sue loved gardening, and she was an avid Ohio State Football fan. She was also very generous and had a passion for helping others, especially children and animals. She was a supporter of TWIG through Nationwide Children's Hospital, as well as the Capital Area Humane Society and Columbus Zoo. Sue was honest and fair, and she will be greatly missed by those who had the chance to know and love her. She is survived by her husband, Gary Baas; children, Jeffrey Baas, Lisa Baas, Heather Baas, and David Baas; brother, Colonel Frank (Remle) Willett; grandchildren, Courtney Baas, Jarrod Payne, and Audra Payne; nephew, Mark (Cyndi) Willett; great nephews, Raymond (Jessica) and Ryan Willett; and many close friends, including Jeff Reynolds, and special friend and caregiver, Holly Preece. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her nephew Scott Willett. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at the SCHOEDINGER MIDTOWN CHAPEL, 229 E. State St. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4, at St. John's Evangelical Protestant Church, 59 E. Mound Street, where family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery.
