NEW BEDFORD -- Gerard Joseph Desrosiers, 71, of New Bedford died Monday, Aug. 8, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. A lifelong resident of New Bedford, he was the son of the late Aldege and Alice (Gamache) Desrosiers. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School and a communicant of St. Joseph-St. Therese Church. He owned and operated Gerry's Variety Store on Ashley Boulevard. Mr. Desrosiers enjoyed gardening, sports and being outdoors, especially on his deck. He mostly enjoyed being with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a baseball player in his younger days. Survivors include four sons, Richard Desrosiers of New Bedford, Gerard Desrosiers Jr., and his wife, Diane, of New Bedford, Michael Desrosiers, and his wife, Beth, of Delray, Fla., and Scott Desrosiers, and his wife, Vicki, of Chester, Va.; a daughter, Donna M. Balut of New Bedford; three brothers, Albert Desrosiers and Aldege Desrosiers, both of New Bedford, and Eugene Desrosiers of Florida; three sisters, Irene Girouard of New Bedford, Alice Fiano of Florida and Yvette Cote of Middleboro; his former wife, Beverly A. (DeCosta) Labonte; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was a brother of the late Leo, George, Paul, Louise and Lucille Desrosiers. His funeral Mass will be at 10 a. M. Thursday at St. Joseph-St. Therese Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd.
