While playing with a rake on the shores of Lake Butte des Morts near the family cottage, Edward Paul Binder, 3-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward A. Binder, 2216 Doty street, fell into the water and drowned last evening at about 6:20 o'clock.
The little boy was playing in the yard at the cottage which is at Reighmoor beach on Lake Butte des Morts, in the town, of Omro. His father, who was. working near the cottage, noticed the boy's absence, and in looking for him saw the rake sticking out of the water near shore. Mr. Binder went to the dock and saw the youngster's body in the water, which is about three and a half feet deep at that point. Mr. Binder jumped into the water, pulled the youngster to shore and called the sheriffs department The Miller ambulance was dispatched to the scene with resuscitator but efforts to revive the little boy were futile. . .
Dr. G. A. Steele, county coroner, stated the parents had told him the child may have been in the water about 15 or 20 minutes before the father discovered the body. Death was-due to accidental drowning, the coroner decided.
Three other children, Dorothy, Beatrice and Phillip, were also near the cottage when the drowning occurred, but were unaware of young Edward's misfortune. Edward Paul Binder was born March 18, 1938.
Surviving besides the parents are two sisters, Dorothy and Beatrice; one brother, Philip; and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Binder, Oshkosh, and Mrs. Rose Phillips, New York City.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning at the Fiss & Bills funeral home at 7:30 and at 8 o'clock at - St. Vincent's Catholic church, the Rev. Aloys Bastian officiating. Burial- will be at Riverside cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home up to the time of the services. The rosary will be said tomorrow evening . at 7:30 o'clock.
