Ann E. (Selby) Iskra passed away at Grandview Hospital in Ironwood on 1/1/2007 after a very brief illness. Born 5/17/1916 the daughter of Charles M. & Sophrina Selby. Ann was a member of the Class of 1934 & long-time Ontonagon resident. She had resided at the Villa Maria in Hurley, Wisconsin for the past 4 years.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph, brothers Walter, George & Charles. She is survived by her sons, John of Toronto & Andrew of Ontonagon.
A devoted wife & mother, an avid reader and a published poet, Ann volunteered with the Ontonagon Historical Museum and other local organizations. She found great delight in meeting visitors from around the world and sharing information about the U.P. and particularly local lore about the Ontonagon Area. She served on the Senior Nutrition Advisory Board to the Gogeic Ontonagon Community Action Agency, UP Legal Services Board of Directors, On-Transportation Board. A member of the American Legion Auxiliary, & US Marine Corp Raider Assoc.
In 2001 as a guest of the US Marine Corps, Ann attended the burial of the remains of her brother Marine Pvt. Charles Selby with full honors in Arlington National Cemetery after he had been MIA for 59 years ata Makin Island, Butaritari Atoll.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated onFriday January 5 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will be held at the Holy Family Cemetery in Ontonagon.
