PORTLAND - Edna Croteau, 84, of Cumberland Avenue, formerly of Lisbon, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, at a Portland health care facility, after a long illness. Born at Lisbon, the daughter of James and Agnes Robineau Gamache, she was educated in Lisbon schools and graduated valedictorian from Lisbon High School. As a young woman, Mrs. Croteau was a member of St. Ann's Parish at Lisbon and when she moved to Portland 38 years ago she attended Sacred Heart Parish. She was very active in the Franklin Towers community when she resided there and also was an avid sports fan, as she loved to follow the Red Sox. She also enjoyed playing cards. Mrs. Croteau will be fondly remembered as a devoted mother by her seven children, whom she raised by herself and for which she was very proud. Survivors include four daughters, Marsha Kroll of Fayette, Jackie Hudson of Steep Falls, and Jolene Michaud and Margo Reagan, both of Portland; three sons, Joseph of Dayton and Jim and Jeffrey, both of Portland; 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Sylvio Gamache. She was a devoted mother and raised her seven children on her own, her family said. A grandson, Frank J. Michaud Jr., died in 1985. Surviving are four daughters, Marsha Kroll of Fayette, Jackie Hudson of Steep Falls at Standish, and Jolene Michaud and Margo Reagan, both of Portland; three sons, Joseph of Dayton and Jim and Jeffrey, both of Portland; 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Lisbon.
