TAMARAC, Fla. -- M. Estelle Leavitt, 81, of Tamarac, Fla., died peacefully at home with her family by her side on March 18. She was born in Waterville on Jan. 7, 1932, daughter of the late Arthur and Marie (Bourgoin) Gamache. Estelle attended Mount Merici Academy, graduating from Winslow High School in 1951.
After marrying Galen E. Leavitt on Oct. 9, 1954, Estelle and her husband became residents of Oakland, where they raised four daughters and lived for 36 years. In addition to being a wonderful homemaker, Estelle was employed by Superior Column in Oakland and then in the office at Cottle's Supermarket in Waterville. In 1994, Estelle and her husband moved to Florida where they were 15-year residents of Orange Acres in Sarasota. In 2009, they moved to Tamarac to be near family.
Estelle was predeceased by her husband, Galen E. Leavitt, in October 2012; and her infant son, Chris, in 1957.
Survivors include four daughters, Sherrie Coughlin and her husband Michael, of Grovetown, Ga., Cristie Sabins and her husband, Ralph, of Tamarac, Narei Leavitt, of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Margo Pullen, of Oakland. Also surviving Estelle are her five grandchildren, David Coughlin and wife, Koren, of Oakland, Phil Coughlin and wife, Jess, of Valley Falls, N.Y., Ashley Pullen, of Waterville, Nathan Pullen, of Allston, Mass., and Michael Pullen, of Oakland. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Pierce, Ryleigh and Paxton Coughlin, all of Oakland, and Cadence and Arlene Coughlin, both of Valley Falls. Also surviving Estelle are her sister-in-law, Jackie Gamache, of South China; brother-in-law Ronald Caron, of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in South Florida VA National Cemetery with her late husband. At Estelle's request, there will be no public service. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
